SKMEI makes three kinds of watches: fully digital, analog-digital (hands plus a small digital screen) and classic analog quartz. They look very different and they suit different days. This guide walks through the four things that matter when you choose one: the display, the case size, the strap and the water resistance.
1. Pick the display type
Digital watches show everything on an LED or LCD screen. They are the most practical: stopwatch, countdown timer, daily alarm, second time zone and a backlight you can read in the dark. They are also the lightest and usually the cheapest. The SKMEI 2056 is a good example: a slim rectangular case with countdown, alarm, dual time and 5 Bar water resistance.
Analog-digital watches combine hands with a small digital window. You read the time at a glance from the hands and use the digital module for the stopwatch, alarm or a second time zone. The SKMEI 1220 does this in a compact square steel case; the SKMEI 2396 does it in a large, rugged 56 mm case.
Analog quartz watches only have hands. They are the cleanest choice for work or going out, often with a date window and luminous hands. See the SKMEI 2256 (42 mm steel, numberless dial) or the SKMEI 9353 (day-date window).
2. Get the case size right
Case diameter is the number that changes how a watch looks on the wrist more than anything else. As a rough guide:
- 30–36 mm: small and discreet, common on women’s models such as the SKMEI 1874 (31 mm) or the SKMEI 9068 (32 mm).
- 40–44 mm: the everyday middle ground for most wrists.
- 45–48 mm: a bold look, like the SKMEI 9156 or the SKMEI 1370 (both 47 mm).
- 50 mm and above: oversized sport and military styles such as the SKMEI 1391 (51 mm) and the SKMEI 2396 (56 mm).
Thickness matters too. A slim case (8–11 mm) slides under a shirt cuff; a thick one (14 mm and more) sits higher and feels sportier. The SKMEI 1961 is only 8 mm thick.
3. Choose the strap for how you live
- Stainless steel: durable and smart. Links can be removed to resize it.
- Leather: the most formal look. Keep it away from water.
- Silicone or resin: light, soft and easy to wash. Best for sport and hot weather.
- Nylon: light and breathable, a good middle ground between sport and casual, as on the SKMEI 9392.
4. Check the water resistance
Every SKMEI product page lists the rating. 3 Bar (30 m) means splashes, rain and hand washing. 5 Bar (50 m) adds swimming in a pool. If you plan to swim with your watch, choose 5 Bar. We explain the ratings in detail in our guide to water resistance.
